Longines

The Longines watch maker was created in St. Imier, capital of watch making in Europe. Founded in 1832 its now owned by the swatch group and is the oldest time piece maker still around to date. The watch maker got its big break when a friend of the company made sure it got some of the credit for the first transatlantic flight and from then it took off. The company started by making the watches to survive the cold and taking them across the Atlantic and across the arctic.

The US navy used the watch mechanisms to be able to put in the bridge of the their ships as there were accurate and could be set to change when they entered different time zones whilst still having on hand that stayed the same so they could tell local and home time. The company has always been part of pilots and sailors lives, from fishermen to pilots, making the Longines Designer watch, the watch for the travelling man.
