Christian Dior watches 'have huge celebrity following'

More than 60 years after its innovative 'new look' in 1947, Christian Dior - a creator of luxury watches - "is as powerful now as it was then" in the world of fashion, according to one publication.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of British designer John Galliano being behind Christian Dior's top-quality timepieces, clothing ranges and fashionable shoes, the Brisbane Times explains.

The combination of Christian Dior's "huge" celebrity following and Galliano's "unbridled" British creativity is cited as a significant factor behind the brand's success.

Speaking of Galliano's work, the publication states: "His secret is that he has brought together elements from the world's key fashion cities to create a global brand. Dior has unimpeachable French chic, but also glamour and sex appeal."

In fashion, where tastes can change rapidly, the longevity of Christian Dior is "nothing short of a miracle," the newspaper asserts.

Dior was born in 1905 and died in October 1957.
